Hemos been working with him for the last month. We tried to leave him there, reading books to go to the bathroom while on the pot, which watch TV while working. We also tried putting regular underwear on that to see what he would get wet or dirty, but he does not care. He says the bathroom is scary. He likes the color, but wants nothing to do with it, the owner or his potty, she bought for him. Any help would be great. Thank you!

I had the same problem with my son. My daughter trained easily against him. He wanted nothing to do with the pot. We treat the position of sitting on the toilet - he hated it. He tried online training pants wet - does not bother me at all. programs TV, books .... nothing worked. A month before he turned 3, I went on a mission, because I really wanted was formed for his third Bday. So I done everything I could .... I tried the cereal in the toilet, made a switch table, and put on his regular underwear. first place went to his room and get them out, find the sweater and was put in place. So I hid. It was crazy and it would be completely naked for a while time. I also put a towel on the couch and said he can not sit somewhere else, but just in case. LOL I had no interest to sit on the toilet and was standing directly in the washing up. I threw some cereal and I said what I wanted to do. I had to do many times, of course. I told him to give a label to each time I went to pee in the toilet and would receive a gift if there was a certain amount of stickers on the end of the week. There were many accidents. Finally, he gave up his pants off and the habit of going "Her" up on the couch. If he was a wee just came in my pants. When it happened I went to the bathroom and said: "This is where you go pee. "It took a week or two before we really started to worry. Sometimes I realize how the penis which gave me a sign he feels and maybe try to keep the pee in, so I took her hand and walk to the bathroom with him and tell him to pee. He did not, then 2 minutes later an accident. But one day he just let go in the toilet, has done great, given as 5 shirts for the first time. Do you have something small in dollar stores and has since tried more. However, many accidents, but at least he tried until now I am frustrated at not being able to do to go to the bathroom. I just want to say that it is correct .... next time you can try again. To start, you can say that at least gets 5 stickers in the first week when you bring it to the store and you can choose a gift for yourself. (For the moment I arrived at the dollar store.) LOL Once I have an idea of what he wants a gift every week and try again. I am proud to say that we did in this month and was trained by his bday party. Even if the accident had freak later, perhaps every two weeks or more. Now, it is now 4 in a few months and only five months ago, last night it was formed. This is the challenge too .... I felt like a newborn again. Heehee hope this helps. PS I also got my husband to see a couple of times I had to do. I think it probably also helped.

“I’ve always heard that potty training boys is more difficult. Is this true?”

If you have toddlers, you may have already heard chatter among other parents that potty training boys is more challenging that girls. Perhaps you’ve looked around at other toddlers in your child’s play group or day care setting and noticed that some of the girls are potty training months ahead of the boys. While many parents brush this question off as a matter of parenting folklore, there actually is a small body of scientific research which suggests that there is a strong correlation between a toddler’s gender and not only the age at which they begin potty training, but also the amount of time it takes to potty train.

These studies did find that both boys and girls show the initial signs of potty training readiness at roughly the same age. As we stated in a past article on potty training readiness, these include the physical ability to walk to and lift the toilet seat, consistency in times of urination or bowel movements, and the capacity to follow verbal commands.

So why do boys start potty training later and take longer to complete the process? There are several theories, of which none have been statistically proven. Girls do tend to progress through developmental milestones more quickly. Their language faculties and cognitive reasoning advances quicker than boys and that may have something to do with them potty training earlier than boys.

Additionally, some experts suggest that physiology plays a role in this phenomenon. Little girls are taught to urinate and have bowel movements sitting down. Boys are frequently taught to sit down for bowel movements and that to urinate, there are two positions; sitting and standing. Many experts now recommend teaching boys to go sitting down to cut down on unnecessary confusion.

Some experts and parents believe that frustration levels can lead to longer potty training with boys. Boys tend to become frustrated easier and often simply do not have the attention span and patience at an early age which girls do. This may lead to loss of interest in potty training on occasion, leading to starts and stops which can prolong the process.

Again, these are theories with no scientific basis. If potty training does become a long, challenging process for your little boy, rest assured that there are many factors that could lead to this and it is completely natural and common. While there is never a universal solution or approach to potty training for every child, have patience and let the process unfold and you will be successful.

What’s a good age is start potty training my son? I know a girl who’s twin boys are almost four and they haven’t even started potty training them. I think that is really late but she says they aren’t interested. She also has a 1 and a half year old. I think to myself WOW I wonder how much you spend on diapers!! Yikes! I’m pregnant with #2 and my son is almost one I know they will be in diapers for a while at the same time but can I expect my son to be trained by the time my youngest is a year? He will be about 2 and a half. He is interested in the big potty already. He likes to play with the lid and he follows you to the potty and wants to watch. He is always trying to touch it. I’m think about getting him one just to sit in there so he has his own potty to play with but I don’t want him to think it’s a toy.

Between 2.5 and 3.5 is a good time.
He might see it as a toy at moment, but as he is watching what you do with it he may make the connection between using it like he does and using it for the other purpose soon.
If he does follow you, tell him what you are doing “Mummy is going to use the toilet to do a wee wee”.
I would start him with a potty, take him with you when you buy it and tell him what it is for and, make sure you let him pick which one, most likely with colourful pictures on it. When you are changing his nappy say “Would you like to sit on your potty and do a wee?” and he will gradually start to realise what it is for, if he doesn’t want to, no pressure. When he really starts getting into going to the potty/toilet start a sticker chart, and let him stick the stickers on, make it a really positive experience or he won’t stay interested.

Goodluck!

the problem is that we’ll have one day where he goes to the potty without a hitch, and then we have a day like today. Today, he went and hid behind the couch to have a bowel movement, he just wet in the chair at lunch rather than get up to go potty, and then two hours later, wet on the couch not fifteen minutes after sitting on the potty. please help any good ideas?

Maybe get a chart w/a space for #1 and another for #2 then another for both. Make a reward out of it. He gets to put up a gold star or smiley sticker for whatever he did. So its a game to him. It’ll make it special. As far as aim, I’ve heard that putting cheerios in the toilet give boys something to shoot at to improve their aim. Hope this helps!

She has a potty but she’s more interested in playing with it right now. She does recognize when she’s pooped in her diaper and will tell me.
But is this normal or is she a little delayed in the potty training area. I thought girls were supposed to be earlier potty trainers than boys?

I am really glad that we aren’t seeing ridiculous answers like my kids were all potty trained at 15 months lol. Really annoying.

You say this like she is late, totally normal. She is just now beginning the typical range of when typical kids are pottytrained. Most are between 2-4 years old. Yes, girls are about 6 months earlier than boys, girls are usually between 2-4 years, boys are usually 2.5-4+years

I have an 8 year old boy who pottytrained at 3.5 years
I have a 3.5 year old boy who pottytrained at 32 months
I have a 2.5 year old boy who shows no interest whatsoever
I have a 3.5 year old niece who shows no interest whatsoever

I waited until my kids were dry waking up from naps. They both started taking their clothes off. We used a potty insert.

I had them sit on the potty on a potty schedule for 30 seconds and sang a little jingle. Every 2 hours they sat for 30 seconds. Eventually they started heading to the potty themselves and we dropped the schedule. The whole thing was done in 2 weeks. My oldest we bribed with a matchbox car. Middle son we just gave him praise. We ignored the accidents. We went straight underwear, no pullups.

At first they wouldn’t even sit, just staying there for a few seconds with clothes on for a few days, then clothes off, then up to 30 seconds after 1 week. We did about 1 week of a potty schedule, then dropped it, at the same time we began putting them in underwear at night, no accidents at night, they had a few each that first week after that none.

My 3 year old brother is STILL not potty trained!!! He will not go on the toilet! We’ve tried EVERYTHING, he has his own lil potty, we have the one that goes on the big toilet, my mom tried the “sink the cheerio” thing..we put him in big boy underwear and he still wets himself. He has a friend the same age and shes already potty trained. Hes seen her go and everything but that doesnt “inspire” him to go… any suggestions?

I have 2 boys. My first son wasn’t fully potty trained until he was 4 years old. My second son was 2 and a half. They just do it when they want. My advice is to stop pushing so hard. He is rebelling against everyone. He knows how bad you want him to go, so that is giving him control! They are smart that way! Also, how many times has he wet himself? They go through ALOT of elmo, diego, etc. underwear before they get the jist of everything. I know it is frustrating but just try to hang in there. Good luck and God bless!

okay my son is 29 months and has been potty trained since 24 months but im having the problem where he isnt exactly holding his pee-pee he is just sticking it out n sometimes his penis gets on the toilet seat because he isnt holding it up..wht did u do to help ur son learn how to hold himself??.or is this something i just need to keep practicing with him so he can catch on?..another thing is should he be wiping his own but when he poops?..i let him do it when he pees but he only wipes his butt cheeks so should i be working on the wiping too,,he really wants to wipe himself but im kind of worried it may get very messy with him doing it himself..

My son just turned 3 and he is just now potty trained. We thought him to go sitting down first and once he has that down we will start on the standing up to pee. Try that for awhile it will help with the messes.

my was was potty trained expect at night and i donno what happen!!! now he pees in his pants all the time. when i change him and put clean close on he will pee in the 3 mins later.! and he hates going to the potty now i donno what to do i tryed giving him candy after he goes potty but he still wont do it i tryed “you wont get nothing else to drink until you go potty like a big boy” that doesn’t work and i have spanked him a couple times. i just don’t get it what should i do???

If he was potty trained during the day, and now he chooses not to use the potty during the day and wets his pants, then I would assume that something has changed. Are there any changes in your life? Did you go away from him for a few days? Is there a new baby in the house?

But aside from that, don’t ever punish “bathroom stuff”, wetting the bed or clothes etc.. It won’t help.

You could leave him in his wet clothes (at home) for a little while (just a little while) and let him be a “tad” uncomfortable. It really doesn’t feel good to have cold, wet clothes on. I’m talking about no more than 1/2 hour. That will motivate him.

you could make a game out of peeing in the toilet by throwing a cheerio in the toilet bowl and telling him to aim for it each time. My kids thought that was fun.

Get him to help you carry the clothes, and put them in the washer with you, change the bed with you. Just what he can do beside you. No punishment, just fun. It’s showing what must be done. Usually the kids tag along after you anyways.

Try not to stress, it’s quite normal for some regression now and then.
