Potty Training Boot Camp!?
Okay so my almost 3 year old son is a pretty typical boy….he just doesn’t care about sitting in dirty or wet diapers so he’s been a bit of a challenge to potty train. I tried to do real underwear for a few days, he used them like a diaper and it made no difference. He can urinate in the potty(standing up) but he hasn’t had a bowel movement and he won’t actually tell me he needs to go potty. So my question is…has anyone tried letting their child go bottomless for a few days and put the potty chair in the main living area? A friend told me to do this and I was just curious if anyone has had success this way. Thanks in advance!
I wouldn’t stress out over it too much yet. My son was almost 3 1/2 before he was even remotely interested in potty training (whereas my daughter was fully trained at 2 1/2). We tried the bottomless thing, and it did help because he realized he shouldn’t be peeing on the floor. Then he would run to the potty and pee in the potty. Poop took longer to train for than pee. I would give the bottomless thing a shot and see what he does. Just tell him if he has to go, run to the bathroom. And praise the heck out of him if he does go pee in the potty.
Also letting him pee outside helped us, because he thought it was cool (Although he still wants to do that at age 5, and thats a habit you need to break!) If he pees all over the house I would try something else, like the cheerios in the toilet, or rewards like a sticker chart.
Dont worry, he wont be wearing diapers to college!
Ready for Potty Training???
