How to Tell When Your Child Show Potty Training Readiness?

Every child is different in his or her own way; that’s why you should look out for potty training readiness signs in your child before going ahead with training the child, regarding potty. The signs of potty training readiness differ from child to child.

It is important that the child should be ready for potty training before the parent starts to potty train the child else, it shall be a tough and troublesome task for both, the child and the parent. The key to successful potty training is patience. Both the parent and the child should have potty training readiness before getting started. It shall certainly take some time to potty train the child and there shall be several accidents before the child is completely potty trained.

There is no one appropriate age to begin potty training. Most of the children display signs of potty training readiness approximately between the ages of 18 and 24 months. While there are a few kids who display signs of potty training readiness at 18 months. While there are a few who fail to display potty training readiness even at the age of three.

When your child grows more in age, he or she may provide you with signs or may convey you that they have to visit the bathroom. There are several signs which may help you indicate the potty training readiness of your child. The signs of readiness are both physiological and emotional.

Some of the signs which shall help you understand the potty training readiness of your child is as follows:

  • The bowel movements of the child become steady and predictable.
  • Your child displays facial expressions, posture or words that indicate your child is about to urinate or is to have a bowel movement.
  • Child understands and follows simple verbal instructions. That means the child appears to be potty training readiness.
  • The child remains dry, during the day, minimum for two hours at a time.
  • Child wishes to use the toilet or the potty chair which is indicative of potty training readiness.
  • Child does not appear to be comfortable with soiled diapers and wants them to be changed.
  • Child walks to and from the bathroom.
  • Child is able to undress him or herself.
  • Your child is able to pull his or her pants down which indicates potty training readiness as if the child is able to do this on his or her own then the child shall be more successful in using the toilet.
  • Child is capable of imitating behavior.
  • The other sign indicating potty training readiness is when the child wishes to be like others and craves for the approval of the parents.

When your child displays the above mentioned signs then, it is an indication that your child is prepared to begin with his potty training and the toddler shows potty training readiness. You will achieve success in training the child only after the child manifests signs of potty training readiness.
