Potty Training Regression-What Parents Should Know?

Parents’ seeing your child cruise through potty training most of the time is wishful thinking. In order for your child to become better at potty training there are some things that you should know. Many mothers can relate to their child making the same bowel mistakes and ends up soiling his pants; over and over again.

This is what experts call “Potty Training Regression”. Usually, this is when children sense that they have to go potty. Then, they start to behave in an untaught manner and do not follow the potty training procedures. Potty training regression happens due to a lot of factors the major one being change in your toddler’s daily routine.

The problem of potty training regression is sometimes psychological. A child is smarter than what we give them credit for. As for parents, this fact is often overlooked; if a toddler see that their parent is not mentally ready to properly potty train them; your toddler falls into regression.

This keep happening until your toddler understands and learns that something new is good and in the meantime help them forget the old routine; wearing diapers or pull ups. Potty training regression is a natural behavior that toddlers show, so panicking or getting irritated isn’t going to help you or your toddler through this.

To beat potty training regressions start training your child all over again and after a while he or she will pick it up so quickly because it was a changed that they have already experienced. Like when they started to walk and they bumped their head; at first they did not like it but now falling is second nature to them.

The best approach to take when your child suffers from potty training regression is just to try and help your toddler relax and maintain the positive attitude in their interactions during toilet training. In time, and with help from your side, your toddler can beat potty training regression and get back on track. If your child has regressed during potty training; this could be from stress of punishing him or her.

Expressing disappointment in your child will lead to more problems in the future for them.

  • Always make an effort to treat their accidents during the potty training regression period lightly.
  • Remember that how you may think is not of a child; this means clean them up without any displaying negative emotions or steadily stressing and reminding them that they are supposed to go in the potty.
  • Do not ever resort to punishments during potty training regression. This may worsen the matters. When handled with care the potty training regression can be overcome very easily and in fact the re-training may leave your kid confident and smarter.

Parents help your toddler by reminding him or her to use the potty frequently. Mothers this may be hard to do but don’t give in to tantrums of not wanting to go to the potty (toilet).Especially, when you know that there has been a long enough break since they have lasted visited the bathroom. This step is crucial when recovering from potty training regression.

Also, it is okay to explain the importance of using the potty and staying clean to your toddler. Applying subtle steps will make potty training a long process to help bring your child back from potty training regression. Toddlers may not understand that his or her potty training regression mode but you can; gently guide them to be aware of it. Give your toddler an A for Effort.
