Potty training toddlers at home for parents can be somewhat easy because you can easily get your toddler to the potty and clean up any accidents that may occur. But, what to do when you are in public and have a toddler that is being potty trained? Supposed your toddler has to go to the potty – their crying and you have no potty in sight?

There are so many scenarios for when you are in public with a potty training toddler – this can be truly overwhelming for parents. This causes many moms’ to let their toddler stay home during the potty training phase. This is not what you want to do…take them with you so they can get familiar with being in public and using public restrooms.

Note: You would want your toddler to be able to feel comfortable in using the potty in public places. The only way to get through this is to be prepared beforehand. Also, it is a great idea to explain this to your toddler so that they are not afraid to use toilets in the public. Mother’s you are teaching your toddler a life skill so take them with you and allow them to enjoy shopping just like you.

Things that can help:

• Think Pull Ups …Even though you have told your toddler that they are going to wear “Big Boy or Big Girl” underwear -For instance, when the family is out on shopping trips to the mall or grocery store give your toddler leeway and allow them to wear pull-ups while out in the public. Believe it or not this will not set your toddler back….only keep you from stressing about your toddler peeing and pooping in their underwear – which can be embarrassing to have a toddler walking around wet or if they have done something already.

• Being relaxed and maintaining calmness will help your toddler relax.

All you have to do is ask your toddler if they need to go to the potty every half to an hour after they have finished eating or drinking. Remember that the pull-up is not to be used on a regular basis or long-term this may confuse your toddler… just use them for public outings that are going to short.

• It is very important to know where the restrooms are when you are out in public.

This will you time and you can get your toddler to the restroom on time to avoid an accident in public. If you go to a restaurant that you have never been in before ask where the bathroom is so when your toddler announces that they have t use the potty they are there on time and you know where they are located.

Note: You may also want to ask the waiter to be seated near the restrooms – so you are conveniently close.

• Moms…Please don’t panic - Potty training toddlers can be frustrating and many mothers that take their toddler out regularly in the public will get used to the idea, feel more comfortable when they are relaxed and are not panicking. Go with your toddler to the restroom – if you have a toddler that is a little weary about public bathrooms. Remembered to pack extra sets of clothing of underwear, pull-ups, socks and shoes – for any accidents that may occur…this way you are ready to clean up your toddler and keep on shopping or whatever it is that you are doing in the public.

Mother’s Final Thoughts:

Being a parent…be ready for anything, especially; during potty training toddlers. As we all know that potty training is not an easy task – going out in the public with a toddler that is potty training is just the same as being home potty training. The only difference there is a lot of people and you are not able to properly potty train as you would inside your home. So, if you anticipate going on trips in the public with your toddler – have all the necessary supplies – will most likely get through public outings with no problem. Potty Training your toddler home or in the public is only hard if you make it hard…
