Successful Ways To Potty Training Toddlers?…

Am I hurting my chances of a successful potty training?

So my 17 month old son has discovered the joys of how the potty works. He wants to flush it, taste it, put things in it, pull things out of it, pull the tank lid off ( try) and use it as a tool to get on the countertop. For the last few months I have been telling him the potty is a no no, bad, yucky ect.. And he is too young to really understand that it is only bad when he misuses it.
Is this sending him the wrong message?
I try to have him avoid the bathroom as much as possible
Does anyone have some ways they got a toddler away from the potty without making it a negative place to them?
Lol cookies i already have fishedy makeup out of there! Didn’t mean to give the thumbs downer, I hit the wrong button

Both my sons (now 2 and 3) were potty trained by the time they were 18 months old. If he’s intersted in the toilet u should show him to use it properly rather than telling him its ‘bad/yucky.” Like u said, he’s too young to know that it’s only bad if u don’t use it properly and so ur really teaching him that the toilet in general is bad for him. My sons were ripping off their diapers and not wanting to wear them anymore. Or rip it off once they went pee in it so that’s how I knew they were uncomfortable with wearing a diaper and it was time for me to start training.

If u dont think hes ready or arent ready urself to potty train than u U may want to buy a small potty for him. My boys had one that looked exactly like a real toilet but with a Smiley face on the lid and it was made by fisherprice. They loved playing with it and pretending to use it but only wanted to go pee in the real potty. I started with taking them to the bathroom every 30 minutes..especially after they had something to drink. And ask them If they needed to pee. I bought “big boy” underwear for them with their favorite characters on them (unfortunately the smallest size under is a 2t and both my boys are skinny so I had to sow them a little lol) and a character stool/ Elmo upstairs, Cars downstairs. ) they practiced by aiming at Cheerios I put in the toilet. They were fully trained by 2. They showed interest , so I taught them. I think ur son is interested as well. Yes, 18 months seems young but kids are advancing a lot faster now a days.

If u or ur son aren’t ready for potty training than u should maybe choose a different way to tell him “no.” It may be sending the wrong message to him and not want him to try potty training in.future.

Either way, good luck! :)
