Phase #1 - Initially, understand if your kid is showing curiosity in toilet training toddlers. Communication is important since he or she could show whether he or she are soaked or wet. Do not get dispirited if your toddler stand there and stare at you as they urinating all over themselves. Keep in mind that your little one is unique from acquaintances, relatives, and everybody with the intention of having an expert opinion. Each kid goes through their individual phases of potty training readiness; some begin earlier than others. If you or your kid is not prepared to start potty training – than this would be an annoying experience.
Phase #2 - Get rid of diapers or pull ups. Think about it…What does a pull up actually do? But take our cash – Zilch…we are purchasing a designer diaper! When I started potty training, the first couple of days I permitted my toddler to walk around inside the house clothed in a dress with nothing underneath. I feel that this was easier since the naked experience helped speed up the process.
Phase #3 - Clean up your calendar because finding the moment is challenging to execute, especially after starting something new. Having a calendar help keep things constant; like potty training.
Phase #4 - Get your kid to recognize when he or she must to use the toilet. Explain this to them in your individual words – there is no right or wrong answer; inside my book! I explain things differently than others. Stay consistent when it comes down to toilet training toddlers. So, grab your favorite book, stock up the fridge, cancel the play dates.
Phase #5 - Committing time and patience is needed to successfully toilet train your child. No one learns anything under stressful conditions so; your role is to maintain an encouraging attitude inside and outside the home. Be prepared for some messy clean-ups. There will be accidents especially exactly at the beginning, so do not lose your temper. Take precautions, prevent the really expensive living room carpet and in its place use tile.
Phase #6 - Make the toilet or potty accessible or reachable to your child so that he or she can get to it with no trouble. Please…. Do not place the potty in a corner (if using one) this is not a punishment; this is a life skill that needs to be educated to them. Some toddlers understand faster than others – that is why patience is stressed for the duration of toilet training.
Phase #7 - Set a timer so you won’t have to watch the timer all day and be a harassing parent. In order for your kid to understand using the toilet, I suggest you set the timer for every 20 to 30 minutes. When the timer goes off give instructions to sit on the toilet…he or she will be there for 1 to 2 minutes at the most. Once they are finished give out a reward for trying, and if they have any accomplishment they get the bonus reward according to the routine you established beforehand.
Phase #8 - Rewards…..Otherwise known as “positive reinforcement” can help your kid understand that with accomplishments on the potty, they will receive a reward. It should be valuable to your child and small enough not to bankrupt the family! Gummy Bears is my daughter’s favorite so, I reward her for a successful #1 and a miniature size box for a successful #2. Sometime after the routine is established begin to wean them off the rewards. Once your toddler have recognized these methods take small field trips. Keep in mind to pack a few of changing clothes. For longer trips it is OK to go back to using pull ups especially if your child develops a panic or fear about using community bathrooms.
Ending results - Keep in mind and avoid criticism towards your toddler; if there shall be any setbacks. Once you begin and after a few of days you notice things are not going properly. Consider taking a few weeks off and then try again. After all there is no exact timetable because every toddler learns on their individual pace.
